I have changed my official bank account and took out money from my old account. I am yet to go to their office to change it due to work, though I pay through payment link from my other account before the due date. Last month, in Feb, I called the office in Mulund to pay the EMI installment before the due date in March. They did not pick up. I called again after sometime, they did not pick up. I called for the third time after sometime, they did not pick up. I got busy with work and a few days later called them again, 2 days before the due date. They told me that I have to pay the installment with penalty now since the time has passed. I told them I called them multiple times to pay the installment, but they did not pick up.

a few days later i got a call from their collection department for the money with penalty. I told him what happened. He told me not to worry and he will send me a payment link (through manba finance website) to pay the installment without the penalty. I paid the bill and then now I called the same office again to pay the bill for the coming month (April). Now they are asking me to pay the money with the previous penalty and there is no other way. I told them about the guy from the collection department and gave them his name. Not only did he give me a fake name, they told me no such thing as removing the penalty exists.

They have been pressuring me to pay the emi with the previous penalty. Possible steps I can take and is there a chance to find remedy?

Hello @Noddy

We have gone through your post and noted what you have shared — please confirm if this is accurate.

You had changed your bank account and were paying EMIs via payment link from a different account. In February, you called Manba Finance's Mulund office multiple times before the due date to make the payment — but nobody picked up. By the time they responded, the due date had passed and they insisted on collecting a penalty of ₹1,700 despite your repeated prior attempts to pay.

A collection department representative later called you, acknowledged the issue, and sent you a payment link to pay without penalty — which you did. However, when you called again for the April instalment, the office flatly denied any penalty waiver ever existed, claimed the collection agent's name was fake, and resumed demanding the penalty amount.

This is a clear case of a finance company failing their own customer — penalising someone who proactively tried to pay on time, and then going back on a commitment made by their own staff.
