Dear Agoda Team,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to bring to your attention an unfortunate and deeply disappointing experience I recently had while trying to book a stay at one of Lemon Tree hotels, Hubli, and I seek your kind attention to this issue.
Incident Summary
While intending to book directly through the official Agoda website, I was unknowingly redirected to a site titled “Guest Reservation,” which strongly appeared to be your official booking platform. The site prominently featured your branding and initially displayed prices in Indian Rupees (INR), which further led me to believe it was legitimate.
After selecting my check-in and check-out dates for a 3-night stay, I proceeded to make the payment. However, to my shock, the final amount charged to my credit card was US$274 (approximately ₹23,000+), instead of the INR price initially shown. This charge is significantly higher than your standard rates for the same duration when booked directly.
I later found out that this site is operated by GuestReserve, a partner of Agoda based in Singapore, and not with your direct booking system.
My Immediate Response
Realizing the discrepancy, I called the customer care number provided on the website and requested a cancellation, intending to rebook directly through Agoda. However, the agency processed the cancellation but refused to refund and refused to retain my actual reservation as well.
Initial Booking Reference (via GuestReserve): R570671520. Later upon several calls and discussions with them, they retained the booking but refused cancellation.
Points I Wish to Emphasize
While I fully acknowledge that I mistakenly booked through Guest Reservation site, it is alarming that GuestReserve is using the Agoda brand name and logo, which can easily mislead unsuspecting customers into assuming it is your official site.
Only after this experience did I discover that numerous customers have reported similar misleading encounters with this platform, unfortunately, too late in my case.
My Humble Requests
Considering the hefty amount paid (US$274), I kindly request (can produce the official invoice) that a room with breakfast included be honored against that amount if the initial booking can be reinstated or matched.
I request that Agoda take necessary action to protect its brand identity by investigating and restricting such unauthorized platforms that are damaging customer trust and the brand’s reputation.
I am happy to provide any further details, including screenshots, credit card statements, or additional correspondence with GuestReserve,
Thank you for your understanding, and I sincerely hope this issue is taken up on priority.
