I Lionel Alva am a consumer who purchased career and job-search related services from Shine.com in August 2026.
I initially purchased a paid Shine career/job-search service for approximately ₹3,651, which was represented to me as including services such as enhanced job-search visibility, application support/customisation and circulation of my profile to recruiters/consultants.
Subsequently, I was offered an additional paid package involving psychometric assessment and interview/job-search guidance. I made a further payment of approximately ₹7,000 based on the representations made to me regarding the usefulness and nature of the service.
After making this payment, I was subsequently asked to make another payment of approximately ₹9,000 for an additional service.
I declined this further payment.
The immediate concern is that the services were presented to me through a sequence of paid offerings, with additional services being proposed after I had already made substantial payments. I was led to believe that the purchased services would provide meaningful assistance with my job search, but instead encountered further solicitations for additional paid services.
Particular invoice
The specific invoice presently relied upon is:
Proforma Invoice ID: IN20260820_1473073
Date: 20 August 2026
Service: “Job Search Guidance With Job Thought Report”
Base amount: ₹5,899
GST: ₹1,061.82
Total: ₹6,961
The invoice expressly states that it is a proforma invoice for services ordered and that the services would be processed upon receipt of the invoiced amount.
I therefore request that Shine be required to clearly establish:
What precise services were represented to me before payment;
What precise deliverables were included in the ₹6,961 service;
When and how those deliverables were to be provided;
Whether the additional ₹9,000 payment subsequently demanded was for a service excluded from the package originally sold;
Why additional paid services were presented after I had already purchased the career-service package;
Whether the sales representative adequately disclosed the complete scope and pricing of the services before obtaining payment.
Grounds for grievance
I Lionel Alva submit that the conduct described above raises serious concerns regarding deficiency in service and potentially misleading representations in the sale of consumer services.
I am particularly concerned because Shine's own published terms state that Shine provides paid career services to jobseekers, while also expressly warning jobseekers that Shine does not ask candidates to pay fees for applying or interviewing. Shine's terms further state that users should report suspicious payment requests.
Shine +1
I am therefore seeking clarification and redress concerning the manner in which these paid career services were marketed and sold to me.
I do not allege that every paid career service offered by Shine is illegitimate. My complaint concerns the specific representations made to me, the services for which I paid, the subsequent solicitation for further payment, and whether the services sold to me were adequately disclosed and delivered as represented.
