*Dear Director/CEO Mahindra South Africa,*

*Good Day!*

Trust that the Love & Grace of God Almighty is with you, all your loved ones, family and friends.

I *URGENTLY* need to speak to your and/or a senior delegate in regard of a very serious challenge I experience with a brand new Mahindra Top of the Range SUV, a white 2025 Mahindra Scorpio-n 2.2D (Z8L) 4XPLOR A/T6 I bought on Friday, 2 January 2026 from Mahindra East Rand Group p/a O2 Motor Company, Boksburg.

The SUV gave me challenges from the start / week 1 and were more at O2 Motor Company workshop for repair than at my home as my property but eventually when I got it back and greenlight to travel far; I went on a long outstanding visit to the Western & Northern Cape (Namaqualand).

The SUV almost cost me 3 x accidents. My spouse and I feel so shocked during these ordeals because it could have had fatal consequences to us and/or other road users enroute; especially at Vanrhynsdorp Pass (R27) and the Pikenierskloof Pass (N7).

Upington Mahindra could not solve the problem because the workshop manager at O2 Motor Company confirmed that MSA identified a serious challenge on these SUVs (4 of them) and made a undercarriage protection plate to replace the current one it came out with as standard. The newly made undercarriage protection plate allows for much more suitable wind distribution to the engine to cool it off, preventing the SUV to go into limp mode under pressure or sudden increase of speed during hot climates.

On my return to Gauteng my “new” SUV went immediately to the O2 Motor Company workshop and is there ever since. It seems there is a logistical and delivery challenge between MSA’s workshop and O2 Motor Company. It is more than a month later.

My spouse and family had such a bad shock and OHS experience that they do noy want us to own this “Brand New” PROBLEMATIC SUV anymore. I informed the owner/dealer principal of Mahindra East Rand Group and requested that we settle with a full refund and walk as friends away without dragging things through the mud and waist more time.

The owner/dealer principal indicated he cannot refund me in full but tasked his O2 Motor Company Pre-Owned Manager / assistant dealer principal to provide me with a buy back OTP but I must take note that MSA Headquarters are having a special sale promotion on the specific SUV at current which have a serious negative effect on the OTP vs the sales price I paid 3 months ago.

I indicated I am a pensioner and cannot take such financial loss. It is not my doing and a manufactures fault which they were aware of without informing me and still let me take a long journey, placing our life’s at stake. It is totally unfair to penalise me and put me through this agony as at present and I believe the CPA will support me as a honest customer.

I humbly requested that if there is no sympathy and understanding, with a current unacceptable buy back OTP; I request a private meeting between all involved as well as the CEO Mahindra and try one more time to resolve the case satisfactory.

Trust to hear from you soonest.

Have a blessed day.

*Kind regards,*

Hello @wem

We went through your post carefully — here is a brief summary. Please let us know if anything needs to be corrected.

You purchased a brand-new 2025 Mahindra Scorpio-N Z8L 4XPLOR AT 4x4 on 2nd January 2026 from Mahindra East Rand Group / O2 Motor Company, Boksburg, South Africa. From week one the vehicle had problems and spent more time in the workshop than with you. When you finally took it on a long trip to the Western & Northern Cape, the SUV nearly caused 3 serious accidents — going into limp mode on dangerous mountain passes, putting your life and your spouse's life at serious risk.

It was later confirmed that Mahindra South Africa was already aware of this defect across 4 such vehicles and had manufactured a replacement undercarriage plate — yet you were never informed before undertaking the journey. You are a pensioner and are seeking a full refund, which the dealer has refused, offering only a depreciated buyback price — an unfair burden for a manufacturer's known fault.

Dear Advisor / Moderator,
Good Day!

May the Love & Grace of God be always with you, all your loved ones, family and friends.

I did what you recommend as per "Step 1" and send the e-mail letter I send you which have all the detail to the CEO / Management of Mahindra SA Head Office, customer care and the Dealer Principal / Owner of Mahindra East Rand Group p/a O2 Motor Company, Boksburg.

The CEO / Management of Mahindra SA never returned a reply and/or contacted me BUT customer care said they took note and escalated it but still no reaction.

The Dealer Principal / Owner, Mr Warren Olsen, had the decency to call me personally after his workshop in co-operation of Mahindra SA's workshop have fitted a new factory modified undercarriage plate to my brand new white 2025 Mahindra Scorpio-n 2.2D (Z8L) 4XPLOR A/T6 I bought from his business on Friday, 2 January 2026.

Mr Olsen explained that even if he wanted too; he cannot offer be a full refund of R600,000.00 and the best he can do at present is the OTP back the SUV for R500,000.00. Yes, A R100, 000.00 less for what I bought it brand new a few months at O2 Motor Company. The reason is because of Mahindra SA running a special promotion on the specific top model Mahindra Scorpio-N I bought just before the special promotion campaign. The promotion price is about R80, 000.00 less than the original selling price and therefore he cannot carry a loss of R80, 000.00 - R100, 000.00

Mr Olsen also committed himself by promising that if there is any challenge re-occurring as per my complain and/or new challenges, he will adhere to the Mahindra Guarantee & Factory Warranty that came with the new SUV. Though they could not go and test-drive the SUV after repair in the Western & Northern Cape (Namaqualand); especially on the Vanrhynsdorp Pass (R27) and the Pikenierskloof Pass (N7) as per my precondition on OHS (safety), Mr Hennie of the O2 Motor Workshop did test-drive it around Hartebeespoort Dam (Magalies Mountain/Hills) and according to his workshop manager it is 100% fixed and will not go again in limp mode, cut the cluster display and aircon.

I told Mr Olsen, I understand that they fixed the SUV under its factory guarantee and do not doubt his willingness to solve a challenge BUT he is also well aware I am a pensioner and cannot take any life risks and/or financial losses. I do not drive often down to the Western & Northern Cape (Namaqualand); making use of the Vanrhynsdorp Pass (R27) and the Pikenierskloof Pass (N7). I might only do a trip again at the end of 2026 when my Dad become 95 of age which mean the risk of the SUV repeat such an incident is on me, and there is no 100% guarantee that it will not happen and that concerns me because life's is at stake. Mr Olsen again confirmed that he takes full accountability if anything as such happens by that time or ever again, I must please accept his word and commitment.

It seems I have no choice but to accept though I do not feel fairly treated at all as a consumer.

The SUV is back at my dwelling, and I use it for my private transportation.

Trust to hear what your advice is on the facts given or what guidelines / actions there is to take.

Have a blessed day.

Kind regards,
Col (Retd) W.J.L. Barnard (Wem)
